When you get to Bandaranaike International Airport, you can take a short, easy ride to Negombo. After you check in at a quiet beachside or lagoon-front resort, you can spend the day resting and slowly getting back to normal after your trip. A walk on Negombo Beach or by the lagoon without shoes can make you feel less tired after traveling. As the sun sets, do some grounding meditation, mild stretching, or breath-work by the sea to set a calm tone for the next few days.

Start the day with a guided stroll along the beach in the morning, with breathing exercises that go along with the waves. You can go birdwatching in the lagoon or take a calm boat trip around Negombo Lagoon or Muthurajawela to get a peaceful introduction to Sri Lanka’s wetland ecosystems. The afternoon is for relaxing, whether that means writing in a diary, meditating on the beach, or softly rocking in a hammock under the palms.

Keep going south through fishing communities and beaches studded with palm trees until you reach the quieter shoreline of Hiriketiya or Tangalle. After relaxing into a calm health resort by the beach, the evening is all about breathing exercises and meditating by the ocean at sunset. The sound of waves and wide-open spaces make a really calming place to think and let go.

As the coast wakes up, do yoga or pilates on the beach or walk barefoot along the shore to start your day. You can also go swimming in the tranquil waters of Hiriketiya Bay, paddling in the lagoon, cycling along the coast, or walking along the beach with your attention on the shells.
